Outdoor Model Railroad At The US Botanic Garden
The unseasonably warm weather during our Christmas trip to DC made it easy to leisurely explore the outdoor G-Gauge layout at the US Botanic Garden. This garden style layout composed mostly of natural materials is made by "Applied Imagination" the same company that built a similar charming display at the Chicago Botanic Garden. As with the art in my previous post, access to the display is free to the public.
The DC display features vignettes of farming techniques from around the world. Without further ado, let's go on a journey through the world of agriculture in no particular order...
I'm fairly certain this is a model based on the McCormick Place rooftop garden right here in Chicago. Pretty cool.
This truck is probably the most intricate model on the entire layout.
And of course there were some neat trains and scenes to see away from the farming-specific vignettes including lots of railway suspended 8 feet or more above the ground.
All this to say, if you find yourself in our nation's capital, A walk through the Botanic Garden railway is definitely recommended.
Be well,
Karl
