The Kindness Of Strangers. O-27 Box-O-Fun!

A few months ago I answered a post from a gentleman "Mr. B." looking to give away his 0-27 collection by-the-box to good homes.  Mr. B. was asking only for the cost of shipping in batches of 10 or so cars and even asking folks what railroads they were interested in. So, I of course responded as quick as I could.  Covid lockdowns and general life stuff intervened and with much appology he let claimants know he wasn't able to do the mailings at that time.  No big deal.

Then a couple weeks ago I got a suprise email saying he had a box packed up and ready to go.    I excitedly agreed and here's what arrived (packing material removed by me) for the cost of shipping.
Nothing quite like a beautiful box-o-trains!

This is here the belle of the ball as far as I'm considered.  A lighted RI caboose!  We don't have any lighted cabooses and this one is a beauty.

Georgeous Red RI boxcar.

This is the only unboxed item in the lot.  B asked for prefferences and I just sent a bunch of Chicago related railraods. The proliferation (more to come...) of Rock Island was a nice surprise and very appropriate.

I'm no expert in the kitchen but my Italian wife assures me that Contadina makes quality canned tomato products.

The Pacemaker Red and Grey is a really great scheme and it just so happens that my only diesel 0-27 loco is an NYC!

A very cool contemporary scheme on this double door.  Too modern for the car, but that bothers me not a whit on my 0-27 holiday layout. This guy will get alot of run time.

Here's a really cool PFE Reefer.  UP is a favorite of my son and he yelped when he saw it.

The metal door slides aside to reveal the refrigeration controls and of course the plug door pops out and slides sideways.

More Rock Island. Yeah! A nice livestock car.

Neat T&P Reefer. Cool car, but as it is wood-sided, this is the only car in the batch I might trade or just pay forward to an interested railroader.

Another sweet silver RI box and a different number than the earlier example.

A GN barrel car.  My dad had one of these as a kid.  I think my son will have alot of fun with this.

The whole haul.

A great batch of pristine cars that will look great running around our holiday layout which thankfully we haven't put away yet.  Even more welcome as we have very few boxcars in our collection. A merry belated christmas to my boy and thanks so much to Mr. B. for your generosity!

Sincerely,
Karl
