Chicago Trainspotting, Belt Railway of Chicago #151.

A quick one today.  I saw this beauty crossing over 16th street the Chicago-Cicero border. BRC 151, an MP15AC.

I popped the car around to a more opportune vantage point a couple hundred feet North where I could hop up to track level and catch it as it came along.

I don't know the specific trackage rights, but BRC's main North-South spur follows the border of Chicago and Cicero.

These photographs are taken just north of 16th street.  That's the center of the "22nd street yards", a 8 track wide section (formerly 14 tracks) of the normally 2 track line.  Though not much of a yard now, it does seem to have sufficient trackage to allow convenient servicing of a few nearby industries (notably scrap and sheet metal) in Cicero and North Lawndale.

BRC 151 is an MP15AC that was built in 1975 as BRC 533, an MP15DC.  It appears that in 2015 or 2016 it was converted to AC power and given the 151 number.  Below is the entire consist it was pulling.

More information on BRC is available at their website including some maps and photos:

The Diesel Shop has the most recent locomotive roster I've found https://www.thedieselshop.us/BRC.HTML

Enjoy,
Karl
