Toy Car Scale Comparison. Matchbox "Express Delivery" MB787.
A realistic delivery truck today.
Brand: Matchbox
Model: Express Delivery
Model#: MB787 (Also MB813)
Produced: 2010-2016
This is one of the best sized Matchbox trucks I've found. While it doesn't have a named prototype, it's immediately recognizable as the ubiquitous boxy delivery van. Matchbox calls it 1/70, but looking at the size of the door and pictures of USPS and Fed Ex delivery trucks alongside workers and drivers I think the size and proportions are better suited for 1/87. This type of real-world delivery truck is quite large.
Interestingly, I thought the clear skylight roof over the cargo area was entirely unrealistic, but apparently a translucent fibreglass or white painted roof is a common feature on many delivery vans.
The only shortcoming of this vehicle is that it was never released in any real-world liveries. However, the many of the dozen-or-so paint scheme's (as seen in the model name link) look quite passable and would not look out-of place on a model railroad. Further, the quality of this vehicle makes a repaint worth the effort.
Though not seen since 2016, it is easy to find on the secondary market and it's a relatively recent design that will probably return in the near future.
