Toy Car Scale Comparison. Matchbox "Glass King" MB1042
Today's comparison is a glass transporter truck. A very useful working vehicle for any layout.
Brand: Matchbox
Model #: Mb1042
Produced: 2017
This is great little model. Nicely sized for HO and a good representation of a common kind of working vehicle. Though technically it is a "generic" and has no direct prototype, the cab design is a fine representation of the boxy cab-over trucks commonly seen all over the USA. The wheels are the simple plain silver hub style that are more realistic than most toy car wheels.
The only real drawback I see is the grey plastic, which looks a bit cheap. Like many matchbox, this would benefit from being disassembled and having the cab and body sprayed one color. Look for posts about easy detailing and repainting of toy cars in the future.
This is an excellent example of toy cars filling a valuable niche in HO scale vehicles. Currently the only non-semi-trailer, HO scale glass truck in production is a $40 Herpa Model that is hard to find. It's a lovely model, but it's a European truck not often (perhaps ever) seen in America and it's $40 compared to a $1 matchbox vehicle that might cost you $6 if purchased from a reseller.
As yet only released once -in 2017- this one may not be easy to find, but might still show up in stores. Definitely worth hunting down.
