Athearn Union Pacific SD45 #3500
A real Blue Box looker for you today.
Look at that hulking beauty!
The SD45 was a mainstay of the Athearn locomotive kits line for a long time. It's a fairly accurate model except that like other 60's Blue-Box locos, the body is wider than prototype to accommodate the standard Blue-box motors used in F7 and PA models.
The gentleman who owned this previously has done a fine job with some basic upgrades including 3 colors on the railings, number boards, a beacon and sun shades. Unlike the first runs of Athearn SD45's, this locomotive -which I believe dates to the 70's or 80's- has a number that matches an actual UP SD45.
For those interested, there's a good article on the Athearn SD45 here along with the original schemes from 1966. http://ho-scaletrains.com/athearn-emd-sd45/
