Athearn Canadian National GP9 4108

Another Blue Box beauty today.   Fittingly, I acquired this CN GP9 from a gentleman in Canada. I love the simplicity, repairability and ruggedness of Blue Box GP's and this one is no exception.

Runs nicely on the original open frame motor with flywheels.  Seems to have been well taken care of by it's previous owner.

Detail is basic but perfectly adequate. As near as I can figure, the road number actually refers to a low hood model, but there were similar numbered and liveried high hood examples working into the 2000's!

I still prefer the metal stanchions of previous decades to the plastic breakables of today.

All in all, this fills a nice niche within my collection as something to pull my modest consist of colorful Canadian hoppers and post-1998 it'd be fine power for my assorted Illinois Central  cars.
